Rebecca Minkoff at St. Louis Fashion Week

Spring St. Louis Fashion week is upon us, and while I’d like to go to every event, I usually only make it to one. It wasn’t hard deciding which one to attend when I read that Rebecca Minkoff was in the lineup. She is easily one of my favorite handbag designers! Can I get a Mab Mini in every single color please!

The show took place at Saks and offered complementary Skinnygirl wine. (Thank you for being calorie conscious, guys.) You gotta love booze & fashion. With only standing room spots left, I squeezed my way up close to where all the action was. Last year when I went to a STLFW show I didn’t take my camera and I really regretted it, so I came prepared this year. Rebecca’s collection was exquisite! I found all the looks to be very accessible; something I could see myself wearing on the street. The fun & flirty scalloped shorts were definitely a fave. I also really love her use of edgy latin prints. A really cool thing about the show was meeting the “it” girl herself! I was a little nervous, mostly because I was sporting my busted Cynthia Rowley bag, but I’m sure she knows this is St. Louis, not New York City. She was sweet and said one thing to me “You have a nice camera.” Um…I’ll take it! After I met her I browsed around her bags, but I wasn’t too impressed with the selection and passed on buying one. So off to the makeup counter I went, where I was conned into getting my makeup done, (it’s very relaxing, by the way) and spending too much money on Laura Mercier products.

A great benefit of the fashion show was that 100% of the ticket proceeds went to the St. Louis Fashion fund. I never knew this fund existed, but it’s nice to see more creative arts in this little city.

It was a lovely evening.

Sugar Shack

When one has a sweet tooth, the Sugar Shack is the place to be. The nostalgic candy store first piqued my interest when a photo of their gourmet cotton candy graced the cover of Feast magazine. My initial though:”I need my own photo of that wonderful pink fluff!” and this cuteness. On top of their large selection of cotton candy flavors, they also carry many vintage candies, phosphate sodas, and marshmallows coated in sticky goodness that are called Pillow Pops. The cherry cotton candy I had was delicious, as well with the soda. The shop made me feel like a child again and was reminiscent of the candy store from “The candy man can” scene in Willy Wonka. Although small, the Sugar Shack is not a spot to be overlooked when visiting downtown Kirkwood.

90’s Chic

Shooting these photos was a bit rushed now that the days are shorter. Boo! I raced home after work and frantically tossed clothes around trying to find something to pair with the knee socks that I’ve only worn once. An interesting concoction of clothing is what I came up with. I look straight out of the nineties with the denim jacket, floral, and socks. The jacket is actually a piece I’ve kept since middle school! Proof that you really should invite your friends over when it’s time to clean out the closet.

La France

When I lived in Florida, and grazing novelty shops was a frequent tendency of mine, La France was the crème de la crème! With a mix of high quality vintage and reproduction pieces, it is easily reminiscent of a trendy New York boutique. Cases and cases are aligned with a beautiful variety of jewelry, and you can get lost in the combination of playful vintage fabrics! I snapped these photographs (with permission) on one of my last trips to the store. If you’re ever in Tampa, this is not a spot to pass up!
